Until Satellite TAS, CGNET’s satellite-based Internet access service, arrived in Mongo, Chad, Naoura Deli, project coordinator for FIDAFRIQUE's PSANG 2 project, had to drive 11 hours to N'Djamena to pick up his email. Mongo is far from the electric grid. All the power at PSANG 2's offices is provided by generator.
The area is far from deserted, however. Mongo has more than 20,000 residents, and it is surrounded by more than 200 villages in which PSANG 2 works.
The goal of the PSANG 2 project is to increase food security in the region by increasing food production and new sources of revenue, increasing the negotiating abilities of the most vulnerable groups, and providing better access to clean water, nutruitional education, and literacy training, particularly for women. It is a project of FIDAFRIQUE, an effort for Central and West Africa of the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
PSANG2's Satellite TAS rBGAN terminal unit and exterior antenna were brought to Mongo by Issa Lawali CGNET's field consultant, based in Niamey, Niger.
